Chai White Chocolate
Chai white chocolate is bursting with creamy white chocolate and the vibrant, warming spice of Chai tea. This quick and easy to make cold-weather drink tastes just like a Chai latte.
It snowed last night. Like the first real snow of the season.
It’s time to break out the wooly socks and hot drinks. I started tinkering in the kitchen as soon as the kids were out the door for school.
I brought a small mug of this chai flavoured hot chocolate to Kevy in his office this morning. The first thing he said was “I’m not a tai chi guy, but this is really really good”
Kevy, it’s Chai tea. HA!
This sweet + spicy Chai white hot chocolate recipe is dedicated to that first snow fall.

Tips + Tricks
No. 1 –> Don’t use white chocolate chips. Please! For the love of all that is holy! Chocolate chips contain ingredients that help them keep their shape under heat, and we want our chocolate to melt into creamy deliciousness. Grab some high quality baking chocolate!
No. 2 –> If you want a stronger Chai flavour, add an extra tea bag, as written, this recipe has a hint of the Chai, but this recipe is only here to inspire you, so tailor it to your tastes. One way to see if there’s enough Chai flavour is to test the warmed milk after it’s steeped. At that point, you can easily add another tea bag and steep for a couple more minutes.
No. 3 –> If you love this recipe, and I know you will, to make a larger batch, simply multiply out the ingredients! There are no ill effects from doubling, or halving this recipe.
Ingredients
- whole milk
- coffee cream (or half and half)
- chai tea bags
- good quality white chocolate
How to make chai white hot chocolate
- Add milk and cream to a small pot. Bring to a simmer over medium-low heat, whisk often to avoid burning.
- Meanwhile, chop the white chocolate, set aside.
- Once the milk mixture has come to a light simmer, remove from heat and add the chai tea bags. Cover the pot and set aside to steep for 3-5 minutes, depending on desired strength.
- After the tea has steeped, uncover the steeped milk, discard the tea bags and return to medium-low heat.
- Add the chopped white chocolate and whisk until completely melted and the white hot chocolate is well combined.
- Serve in a large mug, and top with whipped cream and garnish with cinnamon if desired! I highly recommend a gingersnap cookie on the side!
Make ahead
This delicious white chocolate Chai can definitely be made in advance, simply make a double batch and pop the leftovers into an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
To reheat: either pour the white chocolate into a small pot and bring to temperature while whisking regularly or reheat in a microwave safe mug!
