Since I started using essential oils, I've been obsessed with different ways to use them. One night I spent hours poking around the internets, most notably google and Etsy trying to find something I loved.
I actually stumbled upon a beautiful lava bead bracelet by LavHa that really intrigued me. I was facinated by the idea of using a natural "stone" to diffuse my oils.
I did what every wannabe DIY queen does. I went online and found all the stuff I needed and ordered it all.
A week later, a bag full of different gemstone beads, lava beads, sterling silver chain and clasps, memory wire and headpins and other stuff showed up. I probably overdid it, but I am a jewellery newbie and I had no idea what I needed.
Turns out, I should have ordered round nose pliers. My first necklace was kind of square. Oh well, I still wear and love it! LOL
For this project I used:
- 2 8mm fire cracked agate beads
- 1 8mm lava bead
- 2 6mm lava beads
- 20"sterling silver chain
- 3" piece of memory wire
- 4 jump rings
- 1 lobster clasp (I used stainless steel)
- round nose pliers
Use the round nose pliers to create a loop at one end of the memory wire. Thread the beads in the pattern you choose onto the wire leaving the tail after the beads.
Use the round nose pliers again to create a loop on the other end of the beads. You may need to loop to see how much extra wire you have, trim where necessary and re-loop.
Open up a jump ring, thread it through the one link at the end of the chain, and thread through a loop on one side of the bead cage. Close the jump ring. Repeat for the other side.
Holding the chain by the bead cage, find the halfway mark and cut the chain so it is even. At one end of the chain, attach a jump ring - this will be where your lobster clasp clips in. On the other side, open a jump ring, thread it through the final link in the chain and through the lobster clip, close the jump ring.
Drop one to 2 drops of your favourite essential oil onto the lava beads and rub in well with your finger. Enjoy, and smell pretty!
One of my favourite oils in this necklace is Joy.
Crave the good,
Pin this DIY for later!
