Sleep deprivation affects many people. And I’m not just talking about lack of sleep – I’m including lack of productive, undisturbed sleep. I’ve listed a few, and this is by all means not an exhaustive list of side effects of inadequate sleep.

Sleep affects mental processes
Sleep plays a critical role in your brain’s learning and cognitive functions. A lack of sleep can impact many different areas, such as; attention, alertness, problem solving, reasoning and concentration. Sleep also allows the brain to catalogue the memories of the day for later access, and a lack of sleep or productive sleep can inhibit the brain from remembering and accessing what you’ve learned and experienced.
Lack of sleep can lead to weight gain
Studies have shown that insufficient sleep can increase your appetite and cravings for high-fat, high-carbohydrate foods, I don’t know about you, but when I’m tired, I always eat more and it’s not always healthy, nourishing foods. Another study showed that people who get less than 6 hours of sleep were 30% more likely to be obese than those who slept 7-9 hours. That’s the power of sleep!
Insufficient Sleep ages your body
A lack of sleep causes the body to feel stressed, this stress in turn causes the body to create excess cortisol. Cortisol in normal amounts is an important hormone in the body, however, in excess, it breaks down the collagen in your skin, which can lead to reduced elasticity, lacklustre skin, and dark circles under the eyes. Inadequate sleep also causes the body to release too little human growth hormone. HGH in adults helps to strengthen our bones, thicken our skin, and do general tissue repair required all over our bodies.
Chronic sleep loss can lead to disease
There are estimates that 90% of people with insomnia or other sleep issues have other health conditions. Their lack of sleep can contribute to an increased risk of serious health issues such as heart disease, heart attacks, strokes, and diabetes!

It has been estimated that 10-15% of fatal automobile accidents are due to sleepiness or fatigue! How have we improved our own sleep?
My husband Kevin and I have been using a fantastic new product that has helped with our sleep in a big, big way.
