Seriously, this guy LOVES chicken wings. Saucy wings, dry wings. Dipped in ranch, dipped in sriracha. Big wings, little wings. Drums, flats. All of them.

And recently, he discovered that he loves cooking frozen wings in the air fryer!

Tips + Tricks

No. 1 –> Yes! You can cook frozen wings in an air fryer. This recipe is great if you’re forgetful like me and promised Kevy we could have wings for dinner!!

No. 2 –> A mid cook flip is optional, but should be done for best results. This is also a great time to check the air fryer basket for any accumulated liquids. If the wings released some water/juice, dump it out to encourage a dry cooking environment for that awesome crispy skin.

No. 3 —> Don’t overfill the basket! The frozen chicken wings can be touching as they will shrink a bit during cooking, but they should be spread in a single layer. Leaving enough room is important as it allows enough air circulation for them to cook evenly and get crispy.

No. 4 –> You’re probably wondering how long to cook frozen chicken wings in the air fryer! If so, the answer is two fold. These wings are cooked for a longer time at a lower temperature to thaw, then begin to heat the wings without burning the skin. The second phase of the cook is done at a higher temperature to finish off the meat and get that perfect crispy crust.

Key Ingredients

  • Frozen chicken wings: We are a chicken wing household. I actually scoot my little butt over to a local restaurant supply store and buy bulk flash frozen wings. Flash-frozen wings are the best because they aren’t stuck together in a large block at the bottom of the package. Try to choose chicken wings that are roughly the same size to ensure a more even cooking time and more predictable results.

How To Make Frozen Chicken Wings In The Air Fryer

  1. Preheat air fryer to 350f.
  2. Once heated, place a single layer of frozen chicken wings on the tray of the air fryer in a single layer. I like to use tongs here to avoid burning myself on the basket.
  3. Cook the wings at 350f in the air fryer for 10 minutes.
  4. Using tongs, flip the chicken wings over, then return them to the air fryer for another 8-10 minutes at 400f or until the internal temperature reaches 165f.
  5. Transfer crispy chicken wings to a bowl and toss with your favorite sauce or seasoning.

This recipe cooks up between 1 1/2 – 2 lbs of frozen chicken wings, this equals about 18-20 cooked wings. If you need more wings than that, transfer the wings directly from the air fryer to a wire mesh cooling rack and pop them in the oven. Air fried wings can be held in the oven at 170f while whip up more!

Storage:

If you’ve got leftover chicken wings, they can be stored in the fridge in an airtight container for 2-3 days. They can be reheated in the air fryer! Toss them into your air fryer and heat at 350f 3-5 minutes, or until heated through!
