I wrote about what I’m going to do to make 2017 my best year yet. In item #10, I wrote about Kevin approaching me with an idea, thinking not much of it, and I took it and ran. I plunged right into why and how this company’s product work. Dallin Larsen – the head of the company Vasayo said that he was entering business with disruptive science and products, I needed to know more. I got my nerd on and rolled up my sleeves and did some serious research. I took 7 pages of notes and blew my mind, and now, I’m going to blow yours!
This post is about to lay some science on you. Buckle in and try to remember your high school biology! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to drop a comment or send me an email!
I think we should start at the beginning:
A LONG, LONG TIME AGO IN A LABORATORY FAR, FAR AWAY….
In 1961, a British Haematologist named Alec Bangham first described liposomes, he and his colleagues wrote the manual on liposomes in 1965. Since then, liposomes have taken off. In the past, they were generally used to administer drugs to a targeted area, especially cancerous tumours but times, they are a changin’!
Okay… But what the heck is a liposome?
At the core of a liposome is an aqueous (liquid) solution which is surrounded by a hydrophobic (water -hating) membrane in the form of a lipid bilayer. This lipid bilayer is a thin membrane, made of two layers that form a continuous barrier around cells, it is able to fuse with other bilayers such as cell membranes, thus delivering the contents.
That is to say, a microscopic amount of a liquid solution, containing either drugs or nutritional supplements is wrapped in a fatty layer called a phospholipid bilayer, the cell membranes of almost all living organisms are made up of a lipid bilayer. These phospholipids do not dissolve in water and are impervious to digestive juices but are able to bond to cell membranes, allowing the transfer of nutrients.
What does this have to do with Vasayo?
A very small number of companies are pioneering the benefits of liposomal science (the use of liposomes). I feel that explosive growth in this niche section of nutritional supplements has a lot to do with the low absorption rates and bio-availability (the proportion of a drug or other substance that enters the circulation when introduced into the body and so is able to have an active effect) offered by traditional supplements. This low absorption and bio-availability is has been well documented in the past, however, the encapsulation of nutrients within a liposome has created an extremely effective method of bypassing the negative and destructive effects of the digestive system on the nutrients, thereby aiding the nutrients delivery directly to the cells and tissues.
Liposomals are now attached to some of the worlds most popular anti-oxidants and are taking the mainstream supplement market by storm. Vasayo and their MicroLife Nutritionals are at the forefront of the movement. The scientist behind Vasayo’s ground breaking liposomal encapsulation technology, Dr Emek Blair, discussed his proprietary process in an article dated June 25, 2015 with Hank Schultz. Blair explains his process:
We copied the way your body tries to absorb materials [….] My process is the only one out there that doesn’t use higher temperatures, higher pressure or solvents. This process allows nature to decide what size the liposomes are. when you do that, you get really stable liposomes.
Also, their tagline is awesome!! Delivering solutions. Do you get it?! They solve your nutritional problems AND with the help of their liposomal encapsulation technology, they literally deliver solutions (a homogenous mixture of 2 or more ingredients). Cracks me up!
Why should I use liposomal supplements?
The effects of liposomal supplements are significantly increased over their traditional counterparts, simply due to the massively increased absorption and bio-availability. It’s said that higher doses are better tolerated with minimal side effects because they are delivered directly to the cell structures where needed. Liposomes have the ability to transfer water soluble or fat soluble nutrients, which makes them especially valuable. Liposomal supplements don’t need the binders, or fillers which have no nutritional or health value. When phospholipids are consumed, they are utilized to replace damaged ones, making cell membranes throughout the body healthier and better able to protect and nourish the cells they encase, which can lead to increased vitality and better immune support.
How are they digested and absorbed by the body?
Simply put, digestion is the process of making nutrients smaller and smaller until they are absorbed. To make some nutrients absorbable by the small intestine after they’ve been broken down, our bodies create micelles and liposomes. Scientists have learned from our bodies and have begun to mimic the process to increase absorption and bio-availability.
The assimilation of these liposomes is a two step process. Because phospholipids are impervious to various digestive substances, they reach the small intestine in whole form, without degradation, and are absorbed via diffusion into the villi. From there, they bypass the liver and are free to travel through the lymphatic system and into the subclavian vein.
The second step: there are 4 main ways liposomes are assimilated by the body.
Endocytosis – Where the cell engulfs the liposome and the contents of the liposome become the contents of the cell.
Adsorption – The liposome wall adheres to the cellular wall and releases it’s payload into the cell.
Fusion – The melding of both the cell and the liposome membranes – thus transmitting the contents of the liposome into the cell.
Lipid Exchange – The cell and liposome exchange their lipid contents.
What does Vasayo MicroLife have to offer?
Vasayo is poised to burst onto the scene with a line up of 5 surefire winners, and will sell a lineup of nutritional products called MicroLife Nutritionals.
• Build your nutrition foundation with MicroLife Core Essentials
• Provide enhanced brain support with MicroLife Neuro
• Boost physical and mental energy with MicroLife Energy
• Improve sleep support with MicroLife Sleep
• Support a healthy inflammatory response and antioxidant protection with MicroLife Renew
As I have time, I will do in depth looks at the ingredients in each product offering and will be sharing their benefits with you!
I truly believe in the science behind these products. Not only has liposomal encapsulated medicine been proven by science, it has been shown to be beneficial for stabilizing therapeutic compounds, improving bio-distribution of compounds, and overcoming obstacles to cellular and tissue uptake. This groundbreaking technology allows for effective delivery of nutrients directly to target sites while minimizing system toxicity, due to lack of fillers and compounding agents, and accidental over-ingestion.
Thanks for reading this far! I hope this massively long and very wordy Vasayo review was helpful! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me either via email or drop a comment!
