Okay, we grew back on December 5th, but I’m nothing if not silly, forgetful, and highly distractible!
A little back story on this puppy surprise:
In August, we lost our only dog, Indy, to heart problems, it was a sad time in our house. I was adamant that I didn’t want another dog, I didn’t have the time, energy, or room in my heart. But eventually, like I said in this post, my heart warmed and I was ready. Our kids missed having a dog around, and asked consistently for a new dog, or puppy. In fact, in school, while they were doing (Canadian) Thanksgiving “thankfulness” exercises with their classes, both kids said they were thankful for their puppy – even though we hadn’t even told them they were getting a new puppy.
December 3rd, after our kids were in bed, Kevin and I found ourselves wrapping the decoy gifts. We had decided how we would present them with their new puppy months before. Here was the leg work. Aedyn got to unwrap the awesome dog dag we got Stella – which we stuck into a jewelry box – trickery, I know. Zenny, well, he got to unwrap a fabric stick.
The night of December 4th, Kevin and I went up to Edmonton for the night. We took in a hockey game and barely slept that night, because the next day was Stella Day!! We picked up our new baby and started the drive home. She slept on me the entire time. We were in love!
Then, the fun part. We called my mom & dad and had them bring Aedyn and Zenen over to give them their surprise. I’ve gotta say, I was kind of surprised at their reaction! Both were kind of speechless, and looked at us like “are you sure?”
We were sure. Our puppy Stella has grown tremendously since we’ve had her, but our love for her has grown more. She is a beautiful pup, who fits in with us perfectly.
