I’ve never understood the love for chai. I’m not sure why? I mean the flavour in chai is everything I love, but I’ve always been too chicken to try a chai tea or latte. Most of it probably comes from the fact that I always get the same thing at Starbucks and am afraid to switch it up because it’s such an infrequent treat that I’d hate to waste it!
Anyways, a few weeks ago I was cleaning out my cupboards and I found a box of chai tea I bought for Kate. I hummed and hawed before giving in ad brewing up a mug of it. WOW. In that moment, holding a steaming mug of spicy-sweet chai, I felt like I was holding everything that embodies fall: cinnamon, black pepper, cardamom, and vanilla.
Since then, I’ve been adding chai into my hot and likely caffeinated drink rotation. It’s been such a nice deviation from my normal!
Yesterday, Zenen was sick and it was kind of a long day for both of us. He’s just not feeling himself. In the afternoon, after mopping fevered brow, wiping runny nose, carrying a sick boy, and doing everything I could to keep him comfortable, I needed a brain break. I decided to whip myself up a quick treat.
The chai latte I made myself in the afternoon was so good, I whipped up another one after the kids went to bed. It was just as good! Mmm.mmm.mmm Oh and extra bonus, it’s totally free of dairy, gluten, grains, soy, and refined sugar. I don’t even feel guilty drinking them!
