Kate and I are so fortunate to have a really close knit family. Both immediate and extended. Every year, the girls on my mom’s side get together for Girl’s Weekend. Membership to the club is pretty exclusive, you must be a direct female descendent of my Memere (my mom’s mom). This means Memere, her daughters, and their daughters. Eventually, Aedyn will be old enough to join the crew.
Each year another one of the girls hosts the weekend. Because we are now in three generations and all the granddaughters have been invited, we do team planning. Each of Memere’s four daughters has at least one daughter, my mom being the only one with two. This means each year the 10 of us go to a new location, and do new activities! It’s actually a lot of fun and something we all look forward to each year.
Girl’s Weekend has few rules;
– Show up! Attendance is mandatory
– Embrace the theme. Each year has a different theme
– Do your page. Each year we contribute a page to the group’s scrapbook based on the theme
– Drink wine. That one is self explanatory
– NO kids! The usual rule is that kids are not allowed, however, the year I was nursing Zenen, he was allowed to come.
– Have fun and enjoy the activities planned.
This year we stayed at the beautiful Overlander Lodge just outside of Jasper, Alberta. The log chalet we stayed in was stunning. The location couldn’t have been more spectacular! Our theme was “picture this…” which was fitting because we hiked some of the most beautiful kilometers in the country.
Our activity this year was a hike in Jasper. That was supposed to be 5km, but somehow turned into nearly 7.5km. It was a 17,500 step, 72 story, 5.3 mile hike! But, wow, the views. Remember in this post when I talked about the beauty right outside of our door? It’s here and waiting!
This post is about to get picture heavy! Buckle up for some of the most beautiful scenery you’ve seen all day.
If you every get a chance to take this hike, do it. Jasper is absolutely stunning, I’m so glad I went.
Crave the good,
